Primer Surfacer is the application of an intermediate layer between the metal surface and the finish coat. Despite the fact that rather high requirements are imposed on the base for tinting, priming a car with your own hands is much easier than painting itself. In order to prime the car with high quality, it is enough to familiarize yourself with this simple technology and figure out why each type of soil is used.
Metal primer involves the use of a range of products specifically designed to be applied to a pre-prepared surface prior to painting. And depending on the method of impact on the metal, the primers are divided into:
– passivating – contain chromates and other substances, under the influence of which the treated surface becomes passive to moisture. For the bottom and wings of the body, the best protection is lead-surface soils;
– soils with inert particles do not perform protective functions, but only mechanically prevent the penetration of moisture. Such a primer is needed in minor repairs for application before painting;
– tread soils contain dust of metals that have a lower potential than iron (aluminum, zinc, lead). In case of damage, such a primer is the first to take on the impact of aggressive substances, acting as a protector;
– Phosphating primer mixtures contain phosphoric acid, which reacts with metal and forms sparingly soluble phosphates. This primer is very durable and has good adhesion, which increases by 0.05 microns due to penetration into the metal;
– primer-modifier (converter) of rust is intended for application to corrosion sites without their cleaning. Anti-corrosion primer converts rust and forms a durable film on the surface.
